Using hdmi switch with directv hookup
We bought my 95 year old mom a new tv and she got directv subscription on her own.
TV is a new Samsung and has only one video port on it which the directv is plugged into.
so now she bought a DVD player she wants connected.
I bought a hdmi switch and ran the cable that was running from the genie to the tv into the switch and the output from the switch into the tv.(and of course ran the dvd cable into another port on the switch) so she is now able to switch from her tv to her dvd at the push of a button...
except for one issue, now when watching tv, the picture intermittently freezes, just for a couple seconds, on a fairly regular basis. This mostly occurs when a channel is changed or a commercial comes on. Also, the channel guide loads very, very slowly.
what do I need to do? Should the wiring sequence be satellite to switch to genie then tv? Or is something else going on??

Hard to believe a new TV has only one hdmi input. Suggest you check the sides of the tv for more hdmi inputs. In any event, you have the wiring right. The switch is likely the cause of the problem. If you bypass the switch and the problem goes away, that basically confirms it unless the issue is one of the hdmi cables.

Rare for a TV these days to have only a single HDMI input. I would verify if that is actually a TV and not a computer monitor. Also double check the TV set, or verify by the manual, in case it has a 2nd port. Some TVs will have a single port by itself (such as on the back) and any others on one of the sides for stuff that might not stay connected all the time.
I would verify the switch supports HDCP 2.2 so that it plays well with the protections the networks have put in place. Try devices connected directly to the TV and if available perhaps other HDMI cords to narrow down the issue. If it is a "smart" TV you might see if there are any firmware updates available.
On a side note, as this sounds like she got service very recently, make sure the order confirmation and monthly bill are reviewed carefully. Don't want any surprises when the intro discounts end.

Thanks both of you, very much.
I said the same thing about the single port as soon as I saw it. Especially since I own 2 Samsung TVs and both have least 3.
anyway I got in touch with Panasonic who built the switch and it turns out on certain TVs their device requires a second power source via a USB port which is on the tv. So I got one, plugged it up, problem solved!
I really appreciate your responses! Thank you-Happy Holidays!

Switch requires a 2nd power source? So one in regular outlet plus the TV's USB port? That is extremely odd.
Glad you got it working. If I may ask, what exact switch did you get?
