When I change the channel the receiver makes a grinding noise ... and there is a static noise on the TV and the volume is low

My HD DVR (HR20-700) makes a lot of noise when it's turned off. Sounds like a computer booting up. Any suggestions how to fix this?

I just installed an Onkyo HT-R390 surround sound system.  I am experiencing a humming noise coming from my sub woofer.  I only experience this humming when the DirecTV receiver is set to Dolby Digital.  If I turn off Dolby Digital the humming stops.  Is there any way to cure this?
