AT&T Will “SUNSET” Audience TV Channels in MAY

AT&T saying they will “SUNSET” the Audience Channels on Directv in May. Oh goodie....we’re losing More channels, but i guarantee you we‘ll get a notice of higher fees shortly. Dont you love their use of the word, ” SUNSET” instead of dropping or cancelling??? I’ll bet you’ll be seeing more customers “Sunset“ from Directv in the near future

All,

AT&T AUDIENCE Network will sunset its production activities as well as its linear and streaming broadcasts (DIRECTV ch. 239, U-verse ch. 1114, AT&T TV NOW and WatchTV) on May 22, 2020.

AUDIENCE Network is shutting down in strategic shift to support the upcoming launch of HBO Max and align the focus of original content production to WarnerMedia.

We look forward to unveiling HBO Max in May.

Thanks,

The AT&T Community Team

May 22, 2020, AT&T AUDIENCE® Network will sunset its linear and streaming broadcasts.

What does that mean for those who have DirecTV? Will we buy buying straight from DirecTV?

How does that switch happen?

Does AT&T offer its own TV service?

Not sure what you mean by “will we be buying straight from Directv”. They are talking about Directv channel 101. It’s shutting down, I presume. ATT actually offers multiple TV services, including Directv. If you think that message means ATT is selling Directv, no. That’s not what it means.

@leewos Yeah, I knew there were other channel numbers that were in use for Audience, just didn’t know what they were.

It's a channel originally owned by DirecTV, that was also shown on U-verse & AT&T TV when AT&T acquired DTV. On April 17, 2020 AT&T announced it would cease streaming the network effective May 22, 2020.

I got an email last night telling me ATT AUDIENCE is ending. Is that ATT TV NOW? Am I losing my TV service?

No, just the Audience Channel is being removed from the lineup. You will still have all the other channels you subscribe to.

It means channel 101, the Audience network, will be discontinued. Unless you watch that channel, it means nothing to you.

Hi! I formerly had DirecTv Now and then it was brought out by ATT*Tv Now.

Today I just received an email saying: "Effective May 22, 2020, AT&T AUDIENCE® Network will sunset its linear and streaming broadcasts. We regret any inconvenience. Thank you for choosing AT&T TV NOW."

I have an Apple box which I use for my tv apps and stuff.

Does this mean that ATT*Tv Now will be going out of business?

I am not really tech savy, so any info or help provided would be greatly appreciated.

Signed,

blazing

@Jeffster Thank you very much. When I read "Audience" to me it means the viewing audience. I didn't know that was a channel. Thank you Jeffster.

You don't pay for an app - you pay for the AT&T TV service (or the AT&T TV Now service). Those services carry lots of channels - one of them is ending (not AT&T TV's choice), so they won't have it any more, but all the rest are still there. So yes, it's different.

AT&T/Directv "SUNSETTED" the Audience channel April 22. Never heard the term before. I never watched it anyway. Wonder what they're hiding.

@Will301 Actually, under the ”messages” drop down on my TV , it shows my date as being 5-22. I hope i’ll be able to see the conclusion of “MAD MEN” before yet ANOTHER non - subscription channel on Directv ...rides off into the ”SUNSET”.

The term "Sunset" has been around for decades. It is a business and law term. Not only was the standard provisioning and guidance heavily discussed back in the 1970s for America, but it originates going back as far as the Roman Republic and Laws of Plato.

I think the reason why the term is used for this channel and not others, is that Audience was something specifically provided by DirecTV, not negotiated from another network. It has been on the way out for some time.

"SUNSET" - Suppose the channels or the audience network will slowly fade away, over minutes, hours, or a few days??, just as the sun goes down over the horizon. Or maybe it will be there and then all of a sudden while watching, it disappears for good. Then, perhaps they should say the Audience TV network will MAGICALLY DISAPPEAR, compliments of AT&T and David Copperfield. When I switch to Sling or Hulu or Youtube, my cancellation will be INSTANT, not a SUNSET or MAGICAL. By switching, that will be the only way to make my TV channels and America great again.

I'm waiting until the only cable company in our area, offers a DVR that can record more than 2 shows at a time to make the switch... then I'm "sunsetting" Directv after subscribing for 20 consistant years. We're paying an extra monthly fee for "Sports", no current sports teams are playing. Another money grab. You want to watch NON PREMIUM channels like 564, 565, 566, 567, 568, 570? Pay an extra monthly fee. Want to watch channels 558, 559, 560 605.... pay an extra monthly fee. Want to watch channel 606....pay an extra monthly fee.....OVER AND ABOVE the current subscription fees, sports fees, HD channel fees... etc. Soon, ALL basic channels will start at $5.00 a month. I remember when HBO was $9.99 a month and my satellite bill was $75. It's doubled in price, with LESS channels and I dont have HBO

@leewos

The 500s are Premium channels. That includes the Movies Extra Pack (formally called the HD Extra Pack). The channels of that pack, with the exception of HM&M, are not in any packages. HM&M a couple years ago from negotiation was added to Select, Entertainment, Preferred Xtra (possibly grandfathered), and Premier.

RSNs itemize cost for where you live instead of being a flat rate increasing the package cost the same for everybody. As long as RSNs are provided, then you pay for them, regardless of what programming is on them. Switching TV providers would not save you from that. Channels are package to the TV providers and then packaged to us. So regardless of what programming is on there, you still pay for the channels even if you don't watch them because you have them to begin with.

If you have the normal Genie (HR34, HR44, HR54), then you can have on your other TVs regular HDDVRs (last model HR24). This gives you 2 tuners and 500GB space each in addition to the 5 tuners and 1TB space of the Genie. So HDDVR receivers are much better than Clients, and no difference in monthly cost as you don't pay more per the level of each individual box like some providers do. However if you are unfortunate to have the Genie-2 (HS17), then that forbids everything but Clients, being the only restrictive setup that DirecTV has ever come out with.

Referencing this message "effective 5/22/2020, AT&T audiences network will sunset its linear and streaming broadcasts" Can you tell me which channels Uverse will be dropping?

Note: This comment was created from a merged conversation originally titled Uverse Message: "will sunset its linear & streaming broadcasts" what does this mean?

The Audience Network will cease operation on 5/22.

This is ONE network: 114/599 SD, 1114/1599 HD

Don't mess with old people.  The older we get, the less "Life in Prison" is a deterrent.

This TV channel is only on U-Verse and DirecTV. It is not available on any other provider. Switching to another provider will not help.

This has to do with the launch of HBO Max. Apparently, AT&T doesn't think their effort of both is worthwhile.

As far as HBO Max, I hear it's $15/mo. Many (all?) AT&T customers will be eligible for one month free. Most of the highest-priced AT&T services will get it included...a customer would just need to subscribe to one of them.

HBO Now customers will be automatically converted.

For example... I can get it for $15/mo. However, I can upgrade my 100Mbps internet to 1000Mbps for $9.99 more and get HBO Max included.

but what channel is it that's being 'sunsetted'? This message is pooped up on two new channels that pooped up. Channel 115 UMC7 & channel 600 UMC7....so I'm just confused about what channels are going away.

ACE - Expert

 •

@robindea512 UMC stands for Uverse Message Channel (get it? UMC). I have no idea what the "7" means. Both 115 & 600 are new 'channels' used to announce changes in programming. Changes in programming are rare but occasionally networks change names, are moved around on the guide or shut down completely. In this case they are announcing that ONE network, Audience Network (114/599 & 1114/1599), will cease operation on 5/22.

For a little background, Audience Network was originally owned by DirecTV. It was exclusive to DirecTV. However, after AT&T's acquisition of DirecTV it became available on U-verse.

For more details on the soon to be defunct network, check out AUDIENCE NETWORK

I hope this answers your question.
