First installer said system installation was impossible???
Yesterday was my scheduled installation date. Once the technician came out, he briefly looked around and said that it would be impossible to install my directv system, which really hummed me out. He said it had something to do with my patio being enclosed and it facing the wrong way. Since my apartment complex doesn't allow dishes on the roof, the patio is the only place that they'll allow. I called to cancel my order and the installation/technician supervisor advised me to allow him to come out and evaluate the situation on his own and maybe find other options to set up my system. Has this ever happened to anyone else before?

Maybe the tech was correct, let's see what the other guy says. But you need an uninterrupted view of the southern sky to see the satellites. Check dishpointer.com to see what your particular situation looks like.

Yes, it happens often with folks in apartments. Many people don't realize they need an unobstructed view of the southern sky, so folks with north-facing decks/patios often cannot get satellite. http://www.dishpointer.com has some great aerial mapping tools that let you see your apartment and the lines-of-sight to the DirecTV satellites (99, 101 and 103ºW).
