Travel with Receiver-DVR

Going to rent a vacation house that has Direct TV but no DVR. We have a HR44-700 receiver/DVR at home. Can I carry it and remote with me and swap out the receiver at the rental house? Will my account info be recognized when it is operated there? Will a pay-for-view be charged to my home account? Is it legal? Anything else I should know?

Hi @artschmitt1 , we want to help clear things up.

We want you to enjoy DIRECTV in every place. If you bring your own DVR to a different address with other information about the account holder, it won't work. In this case we recommend you to use the DIRECTV App to watch your favorite programming during your vacation.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Unless the house has a SWM dish and you also bring the power inserter then while it is a breach of the TOS there is no way DTV will know.  Any PPV ordered will be charge to the account.

It all depends on what sort of satellite dish the rental house has. You'll need a modern Slimline HD dish with Single Wire Multiswitch power inserter.

Your physical address determines authorized locals, RSNs, and the taxes you are required to pay. What you propose violates the Terms of Service (ToS) because of that.

Though DirecTV may not know directly what you are doing, you could mess things up for the owner of the rental property if you aren't careful. And if it is an older setup, your Genie will not be compatible.

Thanks for the all replies. Won't take the receiver and satisfy ourselves with what rental owner has on his account.

If it turns out the rental owner has an MPEG-2/SD-only setup, let them know to contact DirecTV to get their stuff replaced. Those feeds are outdated and soon those boxes will not work.
