DVR after new GUI update changing channels on it's own
After receiving the new GUI the other day (first appearance Dec 22nd), my DVR is behaving a bit oddly. I also have a standard HD receiver which appears to be just fine, including streaming from the misbehaving DVR.
The problem is that it occasionally tunes itself to channel 9. I can either be watching recorded content or simply be viewing another channel.
I haven't started to record when the events occur, but rest assured they are occurring. I'll start to keep a log.
The only thing that might be different for me is that I'm controlling my DVR with an automation system, and I'm using the USB port in the back to utilize the RS-232 control of the unit. This worked perfectly before the GUI update for a long time, so I don't think this is the issue. I also have a a 1Tb hard drive attached to the unit via the eSATA port, but again this has not been an issue in the past.
I've read the other posts, and I'm only making a new thread as it was recommended for the other "me too's" that jumped onto the other mentioned posts. I've done NOTHING to try and fix the problem yet.
Thoughts? I'm an AV integrator and I have at least one client with the same problem (except his DVR is tuning to HBO channel 501).

If it were me I'd do a red button (inside card door) reset of the DVR, temporarily disconnect the auto system and use the DTV remote fro a while as a test.
Normally, anytime a receiver changes channels on their own we look for a loose, weak or corroded coax connection somewhere between the receiver and the dish.

jgermany,
I am also having the exact same issues.
I am an integrator.
The DVR's are the ones that are misbehaving.
We have systems that are RS-232 based via USB and also IP controlled.
The issues ONLY started acting up when the new guides were updated.
When you turn on the receiver, it is on the last channel. You go ahead and change the channel. A random time later, the receiver will revert back to the original channel, or end up on a random channel 9998 or something similar.
This will happen even when watching a recorded show. It receiver will revert back to the original channel.
The installations that we've done are less than 3 months old. We use high end compression RCA's. We know how to reset the receivers. This is something more than just the basics.

Best to start your own new thread using the "Create New Post" button on the main forum page. Your problem may very well be different from the original poster's. With a new thread you can provide more information about your equipment, location, and troubleshooting you've tried so far. And this forum software makes it difficult to track or respond to folks that add onto someone else's thread.

So other than the "please create a new thread" to the only guy that actually posted anything helpful, does Directv have any insight to my problem? I suspect his problem is IDENTICAL to mine.
I'm an AV integrator. Model numbers are all over the place. From HR20s to HR24s. The problems appear to be limited to DVR's and so far appear to be limited to those with 232 integration (either via the USB connection or the native 232 port on the PRO units). We use the 232 integration almost exclusively for the clean look (no emitter), the reliability (no emitter to fall off), and the features (direct channel tuning for favorites).
I've disconnected the USB connection on mine and rebooted just to see if the unit continues to have issues. That was done about 2 hours ago and it hasn't changed channels yet. I can't unplug the com port on a PRO unit so I'm going to assume this won't solve my problem.
The only thing of note that I've come across is that the "automatic channel tuning" apparently isn't being recognized by the built in OS. My unit is changing to channel 9 on it's own. The last time it happened, I hit last channel and it went back to channel 4 (the channel I was on before the event. I hit last channel again and it went to ch 7, not ch 9. It's as if the box had no idea it had ever been on channel 9.

JGermany, we are both experiencing the same exact issues. This all started with the new GUI update. HELLO, DIRECTV, WHERE ARE YOU?
I am trying this now:
- I am leaving the Directv receivers permanently ON to see if this will help with the channel changing. I leave my TV on all night and I have not seen it flip the channel. I wonder if just keeping the receivers on and not turning them off will help.
- I DO NOT want to convert my clients RS-232 control back to IR. What a nightmare that will be.
- I have the same software: 0x57b.

Same issue. I hope RS 232 isn't the issue. I control all my systems through iPads and it would terrible to have to rewire to IR.
And no reason to start a separate thread. Any normal tech forum would have people with the same issue all posting in one thread so that anyone else with the problem can read all the possible solutions and fixes in one place. It silly to make new threads for the same problem. Hopefully. someone knowledgable can find a solution soon. The self proclaimed forum police should try to worry more about the problem and less about how they think users should post.

suit yourself, but even though you think you might have the same problem the solutions might be different on depending on your equipment. if you want our help, the least you could do is start you won thread so that we, volunteers, can try to help you out. If you don't want to start you own thread, that is fine, but then don't expect to get help from us.

HR20, HR21, HR23, and HR24 x2 with RS 232 control (and some with external hard drives) all having the same issue starting with the software update.

Peds_48installs, if you have an answer to the original poster's question, then I, as an integrator, can go ahead and make my own decisions as to follow the advice that you've provided, or go ahead and post my own thread.
If you have an answer, your help is most appreciated.

As Litzdog posted, Directv is aware of the issue and apparently has identified the problem in the code. I assume we'll eventually get an update that corrects it.
As to the "please begin a new post" request. Note that this is a decision on the part of us volunteers and not an official Directv policy. We often get folks who bristle at the suggestion but as opposed to sites where the threads are round table discussions, on these forums we actually get down to specifics regarding the poster's installation and very frequently have success offering corrections. In those cases multiple posters offering their problem really complicate the conversation and often the "me too" posters offer inaccurate suggestions. So, try not to be too hard on Peds and if you should post again and if I post the same request, you'll have a better idea of where we are coming from.
Of course in your case we have no advice to offer except wait for a fix and it turned out that multiple posters were harmless.

I didn't see a post by "Litzdog". Can you give me a link? I'd LOVE to read it.
