Return of DirecTV receiver

I have a D12/100 DirecTV receiver, do I need to return this receiver if I discontinue my service?

Nope, D12s are now obsolete and you will need to upgrade to a MPEG4 receiver and dish if you wish to continue with DTV, they have a free swap offer you will need to call them. Take it to the nearest E waste center or go to this website to get a shipping label. Remove the access card in case DTV sends an envelope to return it within 30 days.

D12 is the last MPEG-2 (SD-only) receiver made. Since they have been shutting down those feeds since April 2019, that model has been non-returnable for quite some time.

So if you cancel, you recycle it (though might get an envelope for the access card). If you stay, you will need to call DirecTV and take advantage of their complimentary MPEG swap program for all outdated boxes and receiving dish.
