Question

We get a lot of posts from folks who want to jury rig their working installation who are unhappy that what they want to do isn't possible or will cost money.  Directv doesn't offer much support for jury rigging because a lot of it will degrade from t

Limiting access to DVR

I have two HD DVRs and two HD receivers, and during a troubleshooting effort last night, the exclusive relationship between the DVRs and receivers was broken.  How do I go about making it so that one receiver can see a DVR, but the other receiver can not?  I know it was setup this way originally, so

There's a problem communicating with the satellite dish (775) code HR44 Genie

I've runs tests and it says it can't connect to SWM. I've changed HDMI cables, unplugged the SWM for 2 minutes, and nothing cha

Question

What you want will work, but the Directv system is not specifically designed for that purpose so what you propose is by nature a jury rig.  Personally, I spend the $6 and have a first rate system.

It's pretty obvious to me you don't have enough AC power to run your transmitter.  Wouldn't prudence suggest you correct that rather than trying to jury rig your Directv system?  The UPS would isolate the DTV stuff so you wouldn't need to fix the pow

Question

Hey! I just read this. My system was set up by directv techs and is not jury or even jerry-rigged, and I still have this problem regularly. It uses Deca Dvrs can't be seen by nomad periodically but remain viewable on whole home dvr.

Nomad periodically loses connection with DVRs

Installed my Nomad on my wired network with 2 x HR24s. Everything works fine for a while but for no apparent reason, the Nomad loses contact with the DVRs. This happens about once a week. The problem can be solved by restarting all three devices but this is highly annoying - as we know, restarting t

Question

We don't have any data that I know of other than (a) we know the system works perfectly as designed and supported and (b) we see literally thousands of posts from folks with poor performing jury rigs.  Why don't you connect this and see for yourself?

Using the "Receiver DECA" as a local access point?

I was wondering if anyone know the Receiver DECA's CAT5 port can be connected to an Ethernet access point and serves as a local Ethernet hub? This connection, assumes a SWM5 network with BB DECA installed at the headend.

Question

I wouldn't pay too much attention to "me too" posts.  The alleybj poster is running Ethernet cables to switches on a Whole Home system which clearly makes his system jury rigged in some fashion. (Whole Home uses either a DECA BB adapter or a WiFi CCK

That would be the ultimate jury rigged system. The BB adapter is okay as is and it will network all of your HD boxes in that one connection.  The Whole Home system is really quite simple to configuire but it is very fussy that it be done just right, t
