What you want will work, but the Directv system is not specifically designed for that purpose so what you propose is by nature a jury rig. Personally, I spend the $6 and have a first rate system.

We don't have any data that I know of other than (a) we know the system works perfectly as designed and supported and (b) we see literally thousands of posts from folks with poor performing jury rigs. Why don't you connect this and see for yourself?
