Genie upgrade question

I have an older Genie DVR and would like to know what it takes to upgrade to the Genie 2 so I can get 4k. I don't have or want an internet connection for the DVR now and wondered if this is a requirement, and would I need a new dish as well? I read that some features may not work with an older dish,

I got the Gemini to use with my Genie in December. In March it stopped loading or opening apps. It says there is a problem with HBO or that there is no internet connection. Just upgraded our 20-year-old avr with a Denon avr-S570BT. I have searched for hours to try to find an answer to why I cannot get it to pair with our Genie RC73 remote.
